SHIB on PayPal and Shibarium release date on February 14th?
- Payments giant PayPal said that the financial payments company has yet not decided on accepting SHIB payments.
- Shiba Inu lead developer Shytoshi Kusama has hinted that the Shibarium launch could postpone beyond February 14.
Financial payments giant PayPal has been in the crypto space for more than two years now. However, the company hasn’t expanded to accepting other cryptocurrencies except for the four it supports.
Recently, AdRock_0x representing the SHIB ARMY asked PayPal on Twitter whether they would accept Shiba Inu (SHIB) as a payment. The SHIB ARMY representative said that he was “asking for a fren….”. PayPal’s support account on Twitter has replied to the query asking the person from SHIB ARMY to have their friend contact PayPal directly. It noted:
I’m aware that you want to know you accept $SHIB as payment. I recommend you to tell your friend to contact us directly via DM so that it would be taken care of. Thanks! ^LKP
AdRock_0x quickly responded to PayPal support stating that he would be interested in further talks. PayPal Support cleared the air stating: “Unfortunately, we don’t accept SHIBA. Customers in the US can buy, sell and hold four different Crypto on PayPal: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash. For any additional assistance, please send us a DM with your email address”.
As said, PayPal has been in the crypto space since October 2020. Last year in June 2022, the company said that its users in the US can transfer cryptocurrencies to external wallets.
PayPal’s current stand on Shiba Inu (SHIB) doesn’t rule out the possibility that it could be accepting SHIB payments in the future.
Updates on Shibarium Launch
Since the beginning of 2023, there’s been a lot of talk around the launch of Shiba Inu’s Layer-2 scalability platform Shibarium. The launch of Shibarium will significantly reduce the gas costs on Shiba Inu while supporting scalability on the platform.
So far, the launch of Shibarium was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 14, however, lead developer Shytoshi Kusama has shared fresh details about the launch of Shiba Inu.
In one of the Shiba Inu community posts, someone complained that Kusama doesn’t share the actual dates for the launch of Shibarium but just keeps replying “very soon”. Responding to it, the lead developer said that there cannot be any specifics. “I don’t have an exact date because the release of Shibarium doesn’t happen by switch,” he stated.

With his response, Shytoshi Kusama has poured water on the speculations that the Shibarum launch could happen on February 14. Well, the Shibarium launch mystery continues to persist going ahead.
Amid the broader market bearish sentiment, the Shiba Inu (SHIB) price is also trading 4 percent down at $0.00001249, as of press time. SHIB participated in the broader market recovery since the beginning of 2023 and was up by more than 80% until the first week of February. Over the last week, the SHIB price has been on a downward trajectory.
